Head to Bridport Arts Centre for a brilliant new exhibition that celebrates life on the Jurassic Coast. Artwey, South Dorset’s visual arts community collective is currently exhibiting at the Allsop Gallery with mixed-media work featuring and inspired by the World Heritage Site.
In December last year, the group launched an open call to its 80 members to create work which inspired by the places, people, colours and textures of the Jurassic coastline. A collective labour of love, Treasure Planet is inspired by the entire length of the coastline (that’s 95 miles from Orcombe Point in East Devon to Old Harry Rocks in Dorset) and includes sculptures made from Portland Stone, Kimmeridge Bay in textiles, ammonite paintings and landscapes in all media. In fact, the exhibition is as varied as the Jurassic Coast itself.
Treasure Planet also offers visitors the opportunity to share their love of the entire planet by adding a message to the large globe in the centre of the room.
Our aim with this exhibition is to express the treasure that is the Jurassic Coast: its landscapes, its people, its colours and its textures revealed in a variety of mediums. – Artwey
Artwey hope that this exhibition will offer visitors a vibrant reminder of the beauty in our local landscapes, especially in these dark days of winter. All the work on show will be for sale, and there will also be a complementary range of greetings cards, prints and books available to purchase.
The exhibition is on at the Allsop Gallery on the first floor of Bridport Arts Centre until Saturday 21st March 2020. Opening hours are Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10am to 4pm. This exhibition will be stewarded by the artists, so do take the opportunity to have a chat about the work, as you wander around. It’s a treat not to be missed!
