The Jurassic Coast Trust is hosting a free event for businesses at the RNLI College in Poole on Tuesday 28 January. Termed “Jurassic January”, the event will feature expert speakers from the world of tourism and business, with a focus on sustainability.
Speakers at Jurassic January 2020 will pass on ideas and share experiences with the intention of inspiring businesses to become more sustainable in their operations. Peter Moore, Project Manager for Giant’s Causeway National Trust, will talk about balancing tourism and conservation, and the parallels between Giant’s Causeway and the Jurassic Coast.
Peter will be joined by Gwyn Jones from the Association of Sustainability Practitioners, the RNLI’s Anna Frizzell, and Brian Bleese from the Dorset Wildlife Trust. Other speakers include Jon Murden, Director of Dorset County Museum, who will talk about the Tomorrow’s Museum for Dorset redevelopment, as well as Sally Everton from Visit Devon, Patrick Ward from Purbeck Ice Cream, and Chrissie Guppy from Bagwell Farm Touring Park which has won multiple awards for sustainable tourism.
Places at the event are free for local businesses, and a small number are still available. Businesses can book onto the event by emailing [email protected] or calling the Jurassic Coast Trust on 01308 807 000.
Jurassic January 2020 builds on the success of last year’s conference, which was held at the Tank Museum and attracted over 120 attendees. As well as the line-up of expert speakers, the event also provides a brilliant opportunity for businesses from across the region to network, and to share plans and ideas as 2020 kicks off.
The Jurassic Coast Trust’s new CEO, Lucy Culkin, will set out her intentions for the Trust, with a focus on inclusivity, engagement and partnership working in order to promote the scientific and heritage value of this 95-mile stretch of coast. Lucy firmly believes that a new era of leadership provides opportunities to be adventurous and progressive, and to strengthen ties with individuals and organisations who play a role in conserving, educating and delivering inspirational experiences to local communities and the millions of visitors who come to the Jurassic Coast each year.
Guy Kerr from the Jurassic Coast Trust said, “We can’t wait to welcome businesses to this event, and expect it to offer a brilliant opportunity for local companies to explore how they can be more sustainable in their operations. We have a great line-up of speakers planned, and encourage all local businesses to get in touch with us to book their free places for the day.”
