Last week I had a few days off and decided to be a bit of a tourist in my own county. My partner and I headed off to Golden Cap after months of driving past and saying ‘We must go for a walk there’; now was the perfect time to do it.
We couldn’t have timed it better (or so we thought!) the sun shone as we drove through Bridport, Chideock and finally arrived at Langdon Wood car park.
My grandparents used to live in Lyme Regis and when I was little walking up Golden Cap was something I took for granted. As I took a trip down nostalgia lane along the path from the car park I had forgotten how amazing the views are across the Jurassic Coast. I gave myself plenty of opportunities to admire the view (obviously not to have a rest climbing to the top!)
When we reached the top of Golden Cap, it was very windy but it added to the rustic backdrop of the coastline.
With the wind in my face and sideways hair I took loads of pictures. After being ‘the tourists’ we had a quick sit down to take in the view and it dawned on me how lucky we are to live in such a wonderful place.
Lunch time called! We headed off down the coast path to The Anchor at Seatown.
We hadn’t been there since it’s recent refurbishment and what a fantastic job they have done. The moment you walk in there is a big friendly welcome. I decided to go to have a ploughman’s and it was delicious!
They try and source as much produce locally as possibly which I love. The bread came from Leakers just down the road in Bridport and it tasted fantastic!
After lunch before the sleepiness kicked in (and the rain!) we went back up the path back to the car.
We had a great walk and it left us completely refreshed. It reminded me of how amazing it is to live in Dorset with the Jurassic Coast right on my doorstep and how I should never take this special place for granted.
