As reported today, Devon Wildlife Trust has taken the decision to stop operating Seaton Jurassic due to “unprecedented financial challenges”. DWT has managed Seaton Jurassic since it opened in 2016 and it has attracted 250,000 visitors in that period.
Our CEO Lucy Culkin has made the following statement in regards to this news:
“The Jurassic Coast Trust is saddened to hear the news that Devon Wildlife Trust will be ending its tenure as operator of Seaton Jurassic.
We recognise the significant challenges which many visitor attractions have faced during the past year as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and appreciate how difficult a decision this must have been for Devon Wildlife Trust. Over the past 5 years, Seaton Jurassic has inspired curiosity, creativity and further exploration of our magnificent coastline for many visitors who experienced its exhibitions and education resources and we are sure it will be greatly missed by the local community who also used it as a hub to meet with friends and use its wider facilities.
As a gateway town to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, Seaton is pivotal to telling the story of the Jurassic Coast and we look forward to working collaboratively with East Devon District Council to ensure that the story can continue to be told in the future. “
