Run Jurassic Raises £3,000 for Jurassic Coast Trust

The inaugural Run Jurassic, organised by White Star Running in collaboration with the Jurassic Coast Trust, has raised over £3,000 for the Trust, in support of its work to protect and educate people about the World Heritage Site. This was in spite of the second day of the event being called off due to adverse weather conditions.

Donations to the Trust were predominantly raised through individuals’ fundraising efforts with many runners’ places generously donated by White Star. Some of the impressive totals included Dan Williams’ £490, Lisa McGinnis’ £466 and Karolina Kodrowska’s £315. White Star also donated proceeds from the event’s “Chaos Race” as well other items, to the tune of £500.

Run Jurassic was held at Freshwater Beach Holiday Park, who kindly provided use of one of their fields. More than 500 runners completed the long-distance Ultra Marathon from Durdle Door and the Marathon from Osmington Mills, before crossing the line to excited cheers from the crowd gathered at Freshwater. Sadly, the shorter distance races from Freshwater to Golden Cap and Thorncombe Beacon were cancelled (see our previous post).

The event was organised with the cooperation of land-owners along the World Heritage Site, including Lulworth Estate, the National Trust and the Fleet and Chesil Reserve, in order to ensure that the event was delivered in the most environmentally sensitive way possible.

Gemma Wilton from White Star Running said of the event, “We were delighted to work with the Jurassic Coast Trust and their network of partners, land-owners and land managers for Run Jurassic. We felt the event showed off the World Heritage Site at its best, and gave people an opportunity to interact with it up close in all its natural glory! Whilst we were obviously disappointed with having to cancel the second day, we felt it was necessary to ensure the safety of the participants. We’d like to thank everyone involved with the event for their hard work, and can’t wait to return with Run Jurassic in 2020.”

Plans are already underway for Run Jurassic 2020.
