A new Marine and Coastal Education Pack has been produced by the Dorset Coast Forum for Primary schools in Dorset.
The pack which focuses on communicating messages about the marine environment for Key Stage 2 across subjects such as geography, science and citizenship, was funded in partnership by the Jurassic Coast Team and the Dorset AONB Partnership through its Sustainable Development Fund.
The Education Pack has ten different sections encompassing a range of topics such as fossil collecting, marine pollution and coastal geomorphology. In addition, the pack comes with a ‘seashore discovery box’ where children can see and touch the many different things found on the beach. Accompanying some of the included activities is an innovative giant ‘Eels and Rope-ladder’ floor game with oversized dice and counters to help make learning about climate change fun The pack forms part of a pilot scheme, being made available for up to 20 primary schools in Dorset.
Jodie McGregor, Dorset Coast Forum Coastal Officer said “It’s been a great opportunity to work with such enthusiastic teachers and coastal experts and to be able to provide this fun and interactive tool. We hope The Marine and Coastal Education Pack will aid and inspire teachers in the classroom”.
