Nature Rocks is returning to West Bay this summer! On the 11th and 12th August Bridport Museum and the Jurassic Coast Trust will be offering two days of FREE family fun and an opportunity for people to learn about the coast, their natural environment and local history. Nature Rocks is held at the Salt House, West Bay and its surrounding lawn.

In residence on Nature Rocks’ opening day, Emerald Ant invites audiences to dine inside the belly of a 35-foot iguanodon, in their new street theatre show. A highly visual, funny and fast-moving historical romp, The Iguanodon Restaurant is inspired by a real life Victorian banquet, where leading professors and palaeontologists discuss dinosaurs and feast on fossil-fuelled fun! There’ll be performances throughout the day on the Salt House lawn.
Also appearing this year will be popular artist Darrell Wakelam, creating a mural which will explore rope and net manufacture — and will appear in Bridport Museum’s new galleries following their upcoming redevelopment. Visitors can use clay to make models, and have a go at making things out of rope, Bridport’s famous export.
The Jurassic Coast Trust will be giving fossil demonstrations, and local author Sam Scriven will be on hand to sign copies of his recent book, “Fossil of the Jurassic Coast”.
Nichola Blackmore, Assistant Curator of Bridport Museum, said of the event, “Bridport Museum are delighted to be involved with Nature Rocks, it is such a great way to get the community interested in their local environment and history. This year the Museum are really looking forward to creating a mural for our new galleries, including our lift and stairs. You will be able to find out about our exciting redevelopment plans at Nature Rocks!”
