Lyme Regis Museum has now closed its main doors whilst work starts on the construction of the Mary Anning Wing extension. The museum was recently awarded £798,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund towards the construction their much needed £1,400,000 extension. The bigger, better Lyme Regis Museum will open in June 2017.

In the meantime, the museum is far from closed. In fact, there is lots going on. They are still running fossil walks, town walks, Mary Anning walks plus many other events around the town. Visit the temporary information centre and shop on Bridge Street for some wonderful books, souvenirs and gifts.
The museum is also still delivering the very popular outdoor activities for schools. With the sea as a backdrop and the beach for a classroom, they offer inspirational fossil walks and rock pooling sessions for your school.
The new Mary Anning Wing will provide the 113 year old museum with the services it needs to bring it into the 21st century, including:
- A new accessible geology gallery telling the story of Mary Anning and Lyme’s fantastic fossils
- A state-of-the-art Learning Space, to welcome schools, run exhibitions and events
- A lift, ensuring all visitors can visit the museum’s first floor
- An extended shop
- Visitor toilets – so visitors no longer have to be sent across the road to the public loos!
