Ever wondered what a Jurassic Ice Cream might taste like? Well, after 10 years in the making, Purbeck Ice Cream has released their new Jurassic Range in partnership with the Jurassic Coast Trust. As well as tasting great, the Jurassic Ice Cream will raise funds for the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.
The Jurassic Ice Cream Range was launched at The Etches Collection in Kimmeridge, with guests, stockists, press and interested parties attending. The three new flavours were a roaring success, especially once it was revealed that 5p from every tub would be donated to the Jurassic Coast Trust to help conserve, protect and educate people about the Jurassic World Heritage Coastline.
The tubs are ready to be rolled out into stores for the October half term, and Purbeck Ice cream hopes that the range provides as much in charitable donations for the Jurassic Coast Trust as possible!
The Jurassic Ice Cream Range:
- Dig-A-Saurus combines the thrill of Vanilla Madagascan Ice Cream with the adventure of digging out your very own dinosaur like the fossil hunters of old
- Purbeck Rocks incorporates Honeycombe pieces and Milk Chocolate Footprint Fossil Shapes, to symbolise the dinosaur footprints found at Keates Quarry in the Purbecks.
- Ammonite Bites is a Vanilla Bean Ice Cream with Milk Chocolate Fossil Ammonites, paying tribute to the abundance of fossils found along the Jurassic Coast from Swanage to Lyme Regis and beyond.
Pete Hartle, Owner and Director of Purbeck Ice Cream, originally came up with the Jurassic Ice Cream concept 10 years ago, for what he thought was a fabulous ice cream that embraced the local coastline and the rich history of dinosaurs and fossils found along the Jurassic Coast.
The concept was that you could carefully dig around a Belgian chocolate dinosaur, eating all the Madagascan Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, before victoriously consuming the revealed (and historically accurate) dinosaur. The other company Directors Hazel and Patrick laughed at his preposterous idea and proclaimed that it would never work. Every year Pete would bring up the Dig-A-Saurus, and every year Hazel and Patrick would laugh and say no.
That was until the Jurassic Coast Trust got in touch with Purbeck Ice Cream asking if they wanted to be a Lead Business Partner. Pete’s eyes lit up like a Christmas tree at the thought of his long mocked idea becoming a reality. Two other flavours – Purbeck Rocks and Ammonite Bites – soon joined the quickly forming range, with key relevance to the local area, and the Jurassic Ice Cream Range was born.
