Cockington Court, Torbay, was the delightful setting for the first annual Tuffs Cup Cricket Match between the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and the English Riviera Geopark.
The event in June was the finale to a week of Geological themed activities around Torbay; designated a Geopark in 2007 by UNESCO. For more details go to www.englishrivierageopark.org.uk, but back to the cricket! With eight a side playing for the trophy it proved to be a tense affair, but with musical and theatrical accompaniment, the players and crowd could hardly fail to enjoy it. After a fine bowling performance to limit the Geopark to 108 runs, the Jurassic Coasters set about this target with gusto. After some fine shots and surprisingly energetic running between the stumps, the target was met comparative ease and the captain, lifted the first, and probably last, team trophy of his career. The Geopark are very keen to regain their trophy so look forward to a return match, along the Jurassic Coast, next year; all support will be welcome. Photos on www.facebook.com/JurassicCoast
