The Jurassic Coast has a new range of exciting and innovative educational resources which can be downloaded for free at Educational Resources.
Our resources mainly focus on Geography, Citizenship and Science to encourage an appreciation of the values of the Jurassic Coast in the context of World Heritage.
To start, why not try the resources on “World Heritage in Your Classroom” which can be used across a broad range of abilities and key stages. These key questions build a progressive understanding in pupils about the value of heritage and the importance of World Heritage Sites in ensuring that our global treasures are protected for now and for the future.
For older pupils, we also have an innovative World Heritage workshop which could be used as part of a Gifted and Talented Day. In this workshop, pupils adopt a country and explore the critical issues which are causing their World Heritage Site to be threatened. Using this information they design the front cover of a newspaper and then have to report back the story to their peers.
Our other resources focus on geographical and scientific enquiry through dedicated case studies (such as MSC Napoli disaster and Lyme Regis) and also through a cross curricular unit of work, ‘Rocks and Fossils of the Jurassic Coast’.
Our resources have been specifically designed with the new Primary and Secondary curriculum in mind. There is an emphasis on enquiry-based learning, progression through the activities and also links on how to incorporate learning outside the classroom.
