Belemnites come in all sort of shapes and sizes, but they are pointed at one end and have a hollow, chambered shell (the phragmocone) at the other. Often, this hollow end is crushed flat or filled with mud, which is the case here. The solid shell is usually preserved with radial needles of calcite but quite often concentric growth rings are also visible.
