Echioceras is a zonal marker ammonite for a part of the Black Ven Marls, called the Raricostatum zone. Zonal fossils are used to correlate strata from different areas. This is a block of the Echioceras Stone Band which sounds great = but they are almost impossible to prepare or clean out of the rock!
