We are pretty chuffed with the news that the Jurassic Coast Trust has received a grant of £68,100 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for the Growing the Jurassic Coast Community project. Since achieving World Heritage Site status, our main aim as a Team is to help communities across the 95 miles of coast engage with the Jurassic Coast and enjoy what it can offer. We work at festivals, deliver workshops in schools, give evening lectures, offer guided walks – but at the end of the day we need a more sustainable programme to keep this going (we are all pretty stretched if I am honest!). Through this HLF grant, we are aiming to build a network of Jurassic Coast Ambassadors that will be specially trained to work in communities to help spread the message of the Jurassic Coast and why it is special. The project will see a wide range of volunteering opportunities being created, including recruiting 40 new Jurassic Coast Ambassadors and training them up about all things Jurassic. Perhaps you might know someone who is a retired teacher looking for a new challenge or even a young person looking for more experience with an environmental organisation.
