Cumulus Outdoors and the Jurassic Coast Trust have teamed up to help to inspire young visitors to learn about the Jurassic Coast, whilst raising vital funds to help look after it.
Julian Sawyer from Swanage, one of the Trust’s volunteer Ambassadors, delivered a series of talks for young people undertaking their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Residential in Dorset with Cumulus Outdoors in 2019.
Cumulus Outdoors donated £1 from each person in attendance to the Jurassic Coast Trust, helping to preserve the coastline for present and future generations to enjoy. Cumulus also collected donations from people booking onto their coasteering, climbing and abseiling activities throughout 2019, with the total donation amount reaching £560 for the year.
Cumulus’ partnership with the Trust comes as the company moves into new headquarters, the Cumulus Outdoors Residential Centre in Swanage. In addition to their established tented villages, the new centre will accommodate approximately 100 students/teachers in three dormitories set in six acres of grounds. There are catering facilities on-site including a dedicated dining area plus facilities for a variety of adventure activities with space for both outdoor and indoor recreation. The classroom facilities at the centre will encourage the inclusion of more educational elements within the residential programmes as Cumulus continue to develop the business partnership with the Jurassic Coast Trust.
Cumulus’ Steve Thompson sees this collaboration as part of the company’s commitment to looking after the local environment: “Cumulus Outdoors is proud to support the Jurassic Coast Trust, and to have been a Business Partner since 2015. It’s great to be able to do our bit to raise money to help towards conservation and education along the World Heritage Site, so that future generations can enjoy it as much as we do today”.
Guy Kerr from the Trust said, “We’re delighted to be able to offer visitors to the Jurassic Coast an insight into its wealth of stories, whilst raising crucial funds to help us look after it. We look forward to inspiring more young people about our incredible World Heritage Site through our partnership with Cumulus Outdoors.”
