Litter Free Coast and Sea and the Dorset Coast Forum will be coordinating the Great Dorset Beach Clean for 2016. Following 27 years of the event, they hope to continue the fantastic work of the Dorset County Council Countryside team and keep it a success.
The Great Dorset Beach Clean will be expanded into ‘Litter Free Coast and Sea’ week. The Litter Free Coast and Sea week will be a week of events, campaigns and workshops to raise awareness about marine and beach litter and bathing quality. The events during the week will aim to inspire people to go that bit further and take action to reduce litter and improve bathing water quality in their local area throughout the year, and not just on one weekend. The week will kick off with the annual Great Dorset Beach Clean which will be across the whole weekend so more people can attend a beach clean near them.
Litter Free Coast and Sea week will run from Saturday 23 April to 1 May 2016 with the Great Dorset Beach Clean being held on 23/24 April 2016.
The organisations are currently looking at what events and campaigns could happen during the Litter Free Coast and Sea Week and are asking anyone who wants to be involved to get in touch. The organisers are looking for:
- Anyone who wants to run a beach clean event for the Great Dorset Beach Clean
- Anyone who is already running an event during that week that could be part of the Litter Free Coast and Sea week
- Ideas for events or campaigns that could take place during the Litter Free Coast and Sea Week
Please send your name, contact details, the event or idea for an event by 21 February 2016 [email protected] or call 01305 224731 to speak to a member of the Litter Free Coast and Sea Team.
As well as beach managers, volunteer Beach Care group leaders and coastal rangers, they want to encourage others to organise their own beach cleans or events (campaigns) this year. Litter Free Coast and Sea can provide training for sailing clubs, surf lifesaving clubs, beach hut associations, universities, colleges or other organisations on how to run and promote clean-up events.
For more information contact the Litter Free Coast and Sea project or the Dorset Coast Forum at [email protected] or call 01305 224833.
