Mixed bag of bones
This is an interesting assemblage of bones from part of an ichthyosaur. In fact, this is from the back end of the rib cage with the two back paddle bones, the femurs, and the vertebral column. We can tell that the rest of the body would have continued off the bottom of the photograph because the facets that attach the ribs to the vertebrae are on the front, or forward side of the vertebrae. We also know that those vertebrae are from the tail end because the rib facets are quite low on the side of the vertebrae. Towards the skull, those facets are high up near the top of the vertebrae, where the neural arch and spinal chord are located.
