The Jurassic Coast had a fantastic time at the Bayside Festival during the first week of the Olympics, working together with a wide variety of partners under the banner of ‘Natural Weymouth and Portland’.
The ‘Natural Weymouth and Portland’ marquee offered visitors and local people an opportunity to find out more about Dorset’s outstanding coast, countryside and biodiversity. We met, talked to and inspired thousands of people and the feedback from the public was fantastic. Children had great fun taking part in the many educational activities which were on offer and families enjoyed the quiz which involved exploring all the displays in the marquee to find the answers.
It was hugely disappointing that Mainsail (the event organisers) went into administration at the end of the first week and our time at Bayside came to an unexpected and abrupt finish. However, all the partners are determined to work together again to offer the public a wide range of experiences and activities at future events.
Bayside also gave us an opportunity to gather an excellent pool of volunteers with a genuine interest and passion for the natural environment and this will be another lasting legacy for future events.
If you are interested in volunteering for the Jurassic Coast Partnership, please let us know. We are always on the look out for enthusiastic, energetic and keen volunteers who can inspire and engage people of all ages. No specific knowledge is necessary but a passion for the coast and the ability to do everything from running activities for young people to helping to set up and take down at events is welcomed. Roles are likely to include helping to deliver a positive experience at festivals and events, although other opportunities may also be available. Please contact [email protected] to register your interest.
