A new competition has been launched to find stunning images of the Jurassic Coast.The 2013 Jurassic Coast Award is a photography competition open to all and with cash prizes totalling £1,800.
The competition will celebrate the internationally recognised Dorset and East Devon Coast World Heritage Site (The Jurassic Coast) and is endorsed by the Jurassic Coast Trust (JCT). The competition is an opportunity to capture the unique visual appeal of the coastline in all its aspects and changeable character.
The free to enter competition, sponsored by the Fine Family Foundation is now open to all ages with a first prize of £500 to the adult winner and £250 for the youth category as well as runner’s up cash prizes.
The competition will be judged by a panel led by photographers Ben Osborne, Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2007, and Joe Cornish, one of Britain’s most celebrated landscape photographers.
“The Jurassic Coast is a truly inspiring coastline and I have been privileged to explore it through my recent ‘Jurassic Journey’ project” explained Ben. “I am very excited about this competition, which will hopefully encourage people to celebrate this internationally important 95 miles of coast. We are looking for entries which illustrate our themes in an innovative and original way.’
Images will be submitted in three categories which are, ‘My special place’, ‘Point in time’ and ‘Close up coast’. Images must have been taken in the last five years or during the competition entry period, which ends on the 25th February 2013.
‘This competition is a great way to share your personal insight into this very special landscape, and to find out about the work of the Jurassic Coast Trust. All entrants will also be invited to become a Friend of the Jurassic Coast’. said JCT Chairman James Weld. More information available on www.jurassiccoast.link/friend
Sam Rose, World Heritage Team Leader commented;
“We are delighted that this year’s Jurassic Coast Award is a photography competition. The World Heritage Site is very popular subject for many photographers and I’m looking forward to seeing stunning images of that ‘different view’ of our coast. I’m just disappointed that I can’t enter myself!”
The competition is supported by Dorset Wildlife Trust with winning entries to be displayed at the Fine Foundation Chesil Beach Centre during Easter 2013. Dorset Countryside will host the exhibition in the Fine Foundation Gallery, Durlston Castle in May 2013.
