The Jurassic Coast Trust is seeking public input into a new Partnership Plan, which will guide management of the World Heritage Site over the next five years.
As part of this process, a series of public consultation days are scheduled across Dorset and East Devon in September. Locations include Exmouth, Sidmouth, Bridport, Lyme Regis and Swanage. Members of the Jurassic Coast Trust’s staff team will be on hand at each day to talk through the draft Partnership Plan and answer questions. Everyone with an interest in how the World Heritage Site is managed, and how the Site can play an active role in the lives of local communities, is encouraged to attend.
Examples of elements covered by the new Plan include how best to communicate information about rock falls and landslips, how to promote responsible fossil collecting, and the role that museums and visitor centres can play in communicating to people about the World Heritage Site. The Plan also guides the way for local organisations to ensure development and tourism along the coast doesn’t negatively impact the Site.
The new Plan is an important document that explains the reasons for the Jurassic Coast’s World Heritage designation, and how it is protected and managed. Following the consultation period, it will be published towards the end of the year, or early 2020, and will be used to guide management of the Jurassic Coast across the next five years.
