The Jurassic Coast Trust is seeking public input into a new Partnership Plan, which will guide management of the World Heritage Site over the next five years.
The new Partnership Plan will take in conservation and preservation of the Site, how the Site impacts on the local economy, and how the Site can play an active role in the lives of local communities. The new Plan is an important document, representing a tangible expression of the Partnership that looks after the Jurassic Coast. It explains the reasons for the Jurassic Coast’s World Heritage designation, and how it is protected and managed. It also outlines the aims, policies, actions and aspirations for managing the Site over the coming years. The Plan is a formal requirement and will be published towards the end of the year.
Local residents, and anyone else interested in the management of the Jurassic Coast, can comment on the new Plan by visiting jurassiccoast.link/plan. From there, it is possible to download the current World Heritage Site Management Plan, access the new Partnership Plan in draft form, complete an online survey relating to the new Plan, or download a printable version of the survey. The deadline for responses to the new Plan is Friday 4th October 2019.
The Jurassic Coast Trust will also be running drop-in consultation sessions across the Jurassic Coast in September, with dates and venues to be announced towards the end of August. After 4th October, all comments received as part of the consultation will be collated. A report will then be produced by the Jurassic Coast Partnership detailing their responses, and indicating how the Plan will be subsequently amended. The report will be made available online and to anyone who has asked to be sent updates.
Once an amended version of the Plan is agreed by the Jurassic Coast Partnership and approved by Historic England, it will be adopted by Dorset Council and Devon County Council before being formally submitted to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and UNESCO.
