Saturday the 9th July saw the grand opening of the refurbished seafront shelters on Marine parade in Lyme Regis.
Using the original shelter formats, the innovative scheme has blended traditional and modern design to make space that has something for everyone. It comprises community rooms, two retail spaces – a surf shop and a National Trust gift shop – a performance area, a market place, a huge map of the Jurassic Coast, and the centrepiece, the central Pavilion refurbished to its former glory.
Opened by the mayor Sally Holman and children from Lyme’s two schools, the Pavilion is a great space to find out about what’s going on in Lyme, or to use for events.
There are two great displays about the surrounding area’s natural environment, including the Jurassic Coast, and two projectors for looped presentations or films.
Although the interpretation within this space currently feels a little minimalist, it will be added to as more funding becomes available.
The project, spearheaded by Lyme Regis Town Council and many members of the community, is a fantastic addition to the town and a great place to start your journey along the Jurassic Coast.
