The Jurassic Coast Arts Programme is really gaining momentum as we approach Spring 2011. Most of the projects that we have been working on over the last two and a half years are bearing fruit over the coming months and we’re really excited to share the resulting great art with you.
We will be launching Jurassic Journey with Artsreach and Villages in Action at the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis, thanks to the dedication of the Village Hall committee in Uplyme.
Desert Crossings is also setting off on its national tour from the South West, with the first performance of the show scheduled for Taunton in February.
The Lyme Regis Fossil Festival 2011 are developing some really exciting arts events and activities this year for the first May bank holiday and we are exploring ways that this project can work with the Inspiration Aspiration East Devon project which will move from the planning stage into the classroom involving around 20 schools across East Devon, centred around the learning partnerships in Exmouth and the Axe Valley.
Also in East Devon, Helen Poynor will be working in February with a group of female dancers to physically explore the encounter between land and sea which defines our World Heritage Site.
Back in Dorset, as part of Exploratory Laboratory, Walford Mill in Wimborne are hosting a series of two seminars in March around the possibilities for the use of rapid prototyping, a 3D printing method, in creative work.
Also in Dorset, Activate are managing Light on Time, a schools project which looks back through human and geological time through development of a procession which will be held on Poole Quay at the end of March.
In January, we will also see work begin on the Charmouth Bridge as part of our Bog Standard or Beautiful initiative. The proposed new bridge has been designed by a team of artists, engineers and the local community led by the wonderful Sans Facon. It should be ready for public use during the Easter holidays.
Finally, Coastal Voices is getting underway, in the capable hands of the team at Lighthouse, Poole, Serious Music, and B Sharp. We will be working with four composers to create new work which explores the voice of the coast, and will be looking for choirs and communities who are interested in working with us once we appoint a project coordinator in early spring.
