The Lyme Regis Fossil Festival, once again, was a big hit. Roughly 14,000 people visited the festival over the three days participating in events and activities run by the large variety of exhibitors including the Natural History Museum, Natural England and the Jurassic Coast Team as well as local artists and performers.
There was lots going on. Children helped create a full size model based on the Weymouth Bay Pliosaur skull with Darrell Wakelam, then found out how fast they ran compared to a dinosaur with the University of Plymouth.
Fossil collectors had their jaw-dropping collections on show for all to see, and local youth music ensemble ‘B Sharp’ entertained audiences with their five part musical extravaganza on the themes of fossils and biodiversity.
The Jurassic Coast Team and the Jurassic Coast Trust enjoyed a larger space this year where they were able to run brand new activities like the Scelidosaurus Dinosaur Jigsaw. The Trust was able to generate more money through donations, sales and new members than at any previous fossil festival!
As ever the team at Lyme Regis Development Trust were able to deliver a fantastic festival and they are already working hard developing the Fossil Festival for 2011.
