In May, the Trust – through Coastal Publishing – is publishing two ‘walks books with a difference’ which cover the entire Jurassic Coast in two volumes:
‘Walking the East Jurassic Coast’ and ‘Walking the West Jurassic Coast’
The reason these books are different is that the walks are based on the geology and important scientific landforms to explore along the way.
Each walk has a magnificent aerial photograph marked with the route as well as a geology profile so you have a good idea before setting off, of the sort of terrain you will be negotiating.
The other book soon to be launched is an illustrated children’s sticker book of MONSTERS. Predominantly for the primary school age group it uses stickers to place on maps of Jurassic seas, deserts, swamps and tropical lagoons that depict the ‘walk through time’ demonstrating the three geologic periods Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous found along the World Heritage Site. Children will learn about the fossilization process, contemporary features and landforms, as well as how to collect fossils safely.
A must-have for holidays in Dorset, look out for the launch of this book in local booksellers. It can also be purchased from Amazon.
