What do you get when you mix a live young people’s drumming performance, a senior dignitary from UNESCO and paper Ichthyosaurs? The fifth Jurassic Coast Annual Seminar, which took place in the evening of March 11th at Highlands End Holiday Park, a Jurassic Coast Quality Business.
The event was used this year to launch the new Management Plan for the World Heritage Site and we were privileged to have the presence of Harry Reeves OBE, the Secretary General of the UK National Commission for UNESCO as the keynote speaker.
The Event was also notable for a fantastic performance by Lyme Youth Music Group ‘B Sharp’ who performed a version of their piece “The Big Bang” about Evolution , and which was first performed at last year’s Lyme Regis Fossil Festival.
Other speakers include Darrell Wakelam, a local artist who works with groups of young people to create paper Jurassic sea creatures such as ammonites and Ichthyosaurs, and Pat Farrell who is one of the inspiring team of volunteers who run the Fine Foundation Beer Heritage Centre.
There was also an unplanned guest appearance from two Weymouth teachers who had undertaken a training day funded by the Jurassic Coast Trust, and were self confessed converts to the World Heritage Site.
The final part of the seminar involved an opportunity for attendees to say how they would get involved in delivering the new Management Plan, and the outputs from that session will be published soon. We were delighted to have such positive interest and a overwhelming desire to get involved.
