The project for the very needed replacement Charmouth pedestrian bridge in West Dorset has just been awarded the ‘Inspire’ Mark, by London Organising Committee of Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Arts Council England have awarded the Dorset County Council (DCC) Arts Team and Dorset Engineering Consultancy (DEC) a grant to pay for artists fees to work on concept development for the very needed replacement pedestrian bridge at Charmouth beach, West Dorset.
We are delighted to announce that the artist and architect firm ‘Sans Facon’ have now been appointedand will work collaboratively on this project with engineers, with input from DCC Arts Team, the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and the Coastal Rangers.
This collaboration offers a unique opportunity to design a bridge that will be in keeping with its fantastically beautiful location on the World Heritage Site. The artists brief also includes looking at the approaches to the bridge, so it will fit happily within its environment.

It leaves a legacy from 2012
Adds to tourism offer around 2012 by focussing on Jurassic Coast.
There will be workshops with schools and young people, and consultancy with local people
The artists have just begun the the process with the engineers. Community consultation will take place over the summer and autumn months.Design work takes place in 2009-2010 and implementation in Autumn 2010.
